What's the meaning
when he says he holds a protection detail?
Basically the OP has a crush on his straight friend for a long time and he's asking whether or how he should tell him.

So in the end I think this is a troll 80%. Since he was your friend and maybe you realized you were gay during the friendship it may have been a proximity thing or something, but in general I am doubtful."

I hold a protection detail for several television personalities who currently hold contracts with a large television company which broadcasts to the GLBT community so I spend more time around gays than a cosmetology instructor and I've never had any of the people that I work for show any sexual interest in me at all."
