What's the meaning

of out here? Does it mean not at work?

"Our job involves handling a lot of cash, which is dirty, so he carries around a big bottle of hand sanitizer every day and uses it EVERY TIME he handles a piece of money. which is about once every 5 minutes for 8 hours. No joke. The really funny thing is I rarely wash my hands, constantly touch my face and am only sick about once a year. He's out nearly every month."
