What's the meaning

of tackle and dry here?

"Don't get snow in Sydney, but have had an egg thrown at my car. Chased one of the kids down and tackled him. He was crying. Told him he had to clean the car. He asked how. Made him take off his shirt and clean it all off till it was spotless. Felt bad for him all his mates left him dry but meh."

I realized tackle could have different meanings here, but not sure which makes more sense.

tackled him = confronted him
left him dry = left him alone and helpless, deserted him (http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/leave+high+and+dry)
