What's the meaning

of sphere here?

"I think we can sense when two people are connecting in a conversation and we just unconsciously know that we don't need to devote attention since it's clear they aren't targeting you for talk. But when someone is just talking out loud, our brains probably automatically divert our attention for a second so we listen to see if we should be paying attention to them just in case he's trying to connect into your sphere."

Thanks a million!

I looked up the word sphere and none of the meanings seems to relate to the sentence. I guess this is a figurative use of the word sphere? What does sphere represent here and how else would I use this figuratively in other contexts?

Hi,

Try think of a sphere as the area surrounding a person.

Or surrounding eg an issue.
eg Love affairs are not in the sphere of government.

As a person, your sphere can work both ways:
Your "sphere of influence" could be the sum of all the things you are able to have an effect on. Your power radiates outward, like the energy of the sun.
OR, from the opposite point of view, your sphere could be all the things which can have an effect on you. (All the things to which you are attuned - things which are "on you
