What's the meaning

of free game here?

"I got yelled at by a dude in a wheelchair for using a handicapped stall to take a **** at a Lions game

Standard? Are those stalls like parking spaces? I thought they were free game when the rest are locked up"

I know it means somewhere along the lines of he can choose to use the handicapped stall if the rest is taken, but what exactly does free game mean?

Thanks a million!

The text is riddled with slang, but 'free game' means 'freely available' here. A free game is what you win when playing some arcade games, though I don't see that the origin relates much to its use here.

Free game seems much more likely to derive from the use of "game" to mean "animals to hunt", so "free game" means "animals that may be hunted by anyone". From that, the metaphor should be pretty clear.

Hi,

My guess is that the writer means the idiom 'fair game'. - something that it is OK to use in an often inappropriate way.

What I first thought was the 'game' in 'free game' I discovered could also be meant 'a type of activity' such as: the game of politics; It is all part of the game, ect... So therefore, this going into the bathroom and using the handicapped stall could be considered an activity? and that he thinks it's free, not controlled? But then, he could also meant 'fair game' though.
