A nap is a short sleep. "He likes to have a nap after lunch".
To be 'caught napping', is either to be found to be having a short sleep when one shouldn't be sleeping, or when a person is surprised by being caught doing something, as if that person was sleeping and not on guard.
It is similar in meaning to being 'caught out', or discovered in an unguarded moment.
