what's the grapes

Question

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could take a look for me at this one, "what's the grapes", what does it mean? I can't find it in the dictionary... Thanks for your help.

M - So if something happens to the chair, he's got three more weeks?
D - There's a lot of protocol in killing a man. A new death warrant, another medical clearance...
M - A lot can happen in three weeks.
T - Yo, what's the grapes, yo?
M - Thanks.
T - What are you all talking about?
D - Nothing.

This doesn't seem to make any sense. Possibly you misheard the red part, or perhaps it is some form of street/hip-hop slang.

M and D seem to be conversing in a higher English register than T.

grapes can be high-quality potent purple colored marijuana, but I doubt it's that here.
Here I think the idiom derives from another idiom: grapevine. (What have you heard through the grapevine?)
Hence, grapes = gossip, rumors.
What's the grapes? = What's up? = What's going on? Or, as T himself says next: "What are you all talking about?"

Just guessing, but I think both lines that T utters are the same in meaning -- first in slang, then in standard English.

The context I offer is from Prison Break, D.B.Cooper and Michael are backing on the block, he tells Michael that if something happens to chair, Michael's brother will get three more week ( to delay the execution), and then Tweener behind them says: Yo, what's the grapes, yo? Of course, Michale and D.B.Cooper won't tell him " what's the grapes." Because this is their conspiracy.

So, according to the context, I think I agree Califjim's opinion, this one exactly means like Tweener himself says: What are you talking about. Or what's up, what's going on.

Not " grapes" but definitely " what is the gripes?", although in certain accents they the "a" sound is mistaken for the "i" in "gripe"
which means:
discontent
complaint

I guess may be Goodman's opinion is right, I heard again ( the show), I think may be Tweener says: Yo, what's the gripes, yo?

The only problem is, I googled the script of this show, all of which tells me that Tweener says: Yo, what the grapes, yo?

But, as you said, if I say "what the grapes" to most people, may be they' will have no idea what I am taking about. In addition, I have googled it, there is no slang defintion for the word, grape.

So, in the end, in spite of the original script, which tells us that would be "grapes", I think I am with Goodman's view: Yo, what's the gripes,yo.

By the way, Clive, I was wondering if you could take at look for me at this question I asked, I do not exactly get it, thank you.
