What’s the difference in meaning?

A: whose fault was it?

B: It would’ve been Jake’s fault.


A: Whose fault was it?

B: It was Jake’s fault.


I am trying to understand the difference between ‘was’ and ‘would’ve been’ in the sentences above. Does the sentence with ‘would’ve’ show less confidence? What’s the difference in meaning?

Given the circumstances and knowing Jake's character, we can conclude that Jake was the source of the problem.
