What's the difference between these sentences?

"I would not have played with him If I had known that is how he would cheat on the game."

and

"I would not have played with him If I had known that is how he would have cheated on the game."

What exactly is the difference here? The second one doesn't make much sense to me but I'd like to know for the sure what the difference is.

Are you really interested in "how" ("the manner in which") he would cheat, or simply "that he would cheat"? Anonymous I would not have played with him i f I had known (that) that is how he would cheat on the game. " The second one is somewhat incoherent, as you have already noted.

  • It says, more or less, that you would not have played with him if you had known the manner in which he would have cheated if he had had a chance to cheat, which he did not have.
  • There is no reason to think that you will ever need to use such a twisted sentence either in speech or writing.
