What's the difference between the two following sentences???
1) He then asked Paul who did not know.
2) He then asked Paul,who did not know.
As far as I am concerned,the first sentence is associated with a restrictive relative clause,whereas the second one is associated with an appositive relative clause.Even though I know this,I cannot tell the difference between these two sentences regarding the meaning.I'm not a native speaker.For me,their meanings are totally the same.But I guess there must be a difference between them,even though it might be a slight difference.
Can you explain them for me? Thanks a LOT!!!
