What's the difference between 'other' and 'another'?

Hi teachers,
What's the difference between 'other' and 'another'?
Is 'another' for singular nouns and 'other' for at least one?

These are used in many ways, not necessarily one being for plural and one being for singular. For example:

Sit down on that other chair.

We have other chairs you can sit down on.

Do you have another chair that I can sit down on?

These are the chairs we brought. Those over there are another person's chairs.

I won't sit on another's chair.

Singular
a table ..................the table
another table .........the other table

Plural
tables ...................the tables

It seems like 'another' because it means 'an+other' is normally used with singular countable nouns only.
It can be an adjective or a pronoun:
There are not enough tables. [We need another table. = We need one more table.] Adjective.
There are not enough tables. [We need another. = We need one
