What's the difference between ON and DURING?

I went to the beach on my vacation.

I went to the beach during my vacation.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened on my watch.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened during my watch.

Are the ONs in the sentences above being used in the same sense as "on my way to the market"?

If so, then does "on my vacation" mean "while I was on my vacation"?
