Discovery is definitely correct here, and the difference, IMO, is very subtle. it would be hair splitting to differentiate between them
In the example you provide, it’s more a urn of phrase. We often refer to radical new facts as revelations, but in fact revelation and discovery refer to two different processes.
Discovery requires some amount of work, effort or investigation to learn new information. Revelation requires none of this effort; the new information is presented by some more informed being/entity.
