What's the difference

What's the difference between OVERNIGHT and NIGHTLY?
Is 'overnight celebrity' a fixed phrase or is there any (grammatical) sense behind it?

Top answer

See a dictionary for the difference in meaning. "Overnight celebrity" is possible, I guess, on the model of such expressions as "overnight sensation" and "overnight success". They gained their status in a short period of time, almost as fast as the space of one night—you go to bed never having heard of them, and you wake up the next morning to find them famous.
