What's the difference?

Hello everbody,

What is the difference between two sentences? Could you please explain by rephrasing them?

1-Whole Indian tribes were killed off.

2- All Indian tribes were killed off.

Any answer'll be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

(1) means that there were some tribes which were killed off in their entirety. It does not address whether some tribes were only partially killed off or if all tribes were completely killed off. In some cases, the entire tribe was killed off.
