answer:Today is Mother's Day.

We more commonly say 'What day is it today?'

I usually take that question to mean, "What day of the week is it?" (reply) Monday.

If we wish to know the date, we say, "What's the date today?" (reply) The 21st.

Regarding "Mothers' Day," I'd ask, "Is today a holiday?" "Is today a

Hi, Clive,
I guess I should look this up, but I'm stuck on whether or not we should use the plural.
Unfortunately, we don't have "Step-father's Day," so how do we include the poor guy?
I don't know if it still exists, but we used to have "Children's Day." (Not "Child's Day.")
