What's the best way to improve vocabulary?

Well, I think my English isn't so bad. But when comes to vocabulary, I really have to go through a hard time. I feel like I'm at the same stage where I used to be 5 or 6 years back. I know it's quite a silly question but I was wondering if there is any interesting, quick and intuitive way to improve vocabulary.

There are various things you can do. One is to read as widely as possible, and look up any words you encounter that you are not sure about, even if you think you know the meaning. I am a native English speaker with a reasonably wide vocabulary, but I keep a dictionary handy and refer to it regularly.

  • In the past couple of days I have learned two new words from posts on this forum, and improved my understanding of a third.
  • An added benefit of reading widely is that you will learn much more than vocabulary.

I'm struggling myself with the issue. I guess people here will recommened you to read more English books. When reading complicated texts, even though it's tedious I use online dictionaries all the time.
