What's that smell?

Does this phrase, "What's that smell?", mean an unpleasant smell or can it also mean a pleasant one?
If this phrase only means an unpleasant one, what's the phrase for a pleasant one?
Thanks!

If you want to be sure that the listener know you mean "pleasant smell," you could say 'What's that lovely/delightful smell?" or "What's that fragrance?"
