What's going down?

Experts,

When it's used as a greeting expression, what does "What's going down?" mean?
Could it be some what similar to "What's happing?" or "How's everything?", "What's up?/What's new?"

Thank you.

Hi'

You might want to note that this is the kind of greeting that, to my ear, sounds a bit foolish unless you are under the age of, perhaps, thirty.

It's also highly informal, so not recommended at a job interview.

Thank you, ferdis.
Now I'll try to use it.

Thank you for your easy to understand explanation.
Well unfortunately, I'm over "thirty", but I'd still like to try to use it once or twice if I get a chance.
