What's end-of-the year giving?

I just read "Please remember OCW in your end-of-the year giving.
Your support makes a difference."

This is an ad asking me to donate. I figure what this ad means is "This would have become the last year of OCW if I didn't donate.(i.e. if I don't donate, OCW will no longer exist)

Am I right? Otherwise, What's end-of-the year giving?

Top answer

Charity given in December. December is the last month of the year, so it can be referred to as the end-of-the-year.

In the US, we can deduct charitable donations from our income taxes. Any donation given on or before 31 December can be claimed on that year's tax return. So charities remind people that they should think about their end-of-the-year donations.

No, no one is obliged to donate any money at all. But if people want to make donations, they often do it in December.
