What's "default response"?

The "default response" is the response that they routinely and automatically make. In other words, they pump out the same standard response every time it happens.

A mechanical response. Yes, it has that kind of feel, but perhaps not quite as strict as "mechanical".

I don't think it's helpful to describe it that way. When we describe a response as "mechanical", we mean that little thought or consideration goes into it. Describing it as a "mechanism" does not have that same sense.

default: This word is used in computer terminology, not suitable in general English.

Of course, there are plenty expressions of the word "default". Have a look at the verb " to default", look it up in a dictionarry
