What's boomerang?

hey, I have trouble with understanding this sentence: The steps that the US is starting to take on its own are unlikely to do much more than annoy Iraq a bit; some might even boomerang to his advantage.

What's the meaning of "boomerang to his advantage"?

Thanks alot~!

A boomerang is a hunting weapon, a throwing stick, invented by the native people in Australia. It had the advantage that if it missed its target, it would return to the thrower, so he could quickly use it again. English has adopted boomerang as a verb - but it usually means to come back and do bad things to its owner.
