what's an "object of the verb"?

0Hi, 05002br
00I know of a rule that says "Don't put an adverb between the verb and its object." In the sentences below, where shoud I put the adverb01b01i00 immediately02i02b00?02br

  • 00This console allows you to (immediately) see (immediately) what's happening inside the reactor (immediately).02br

  • 00I (immediately) realized (immediately) that there was something wrong with the first reactor (immediately).02li

00My opinion: if the sentences starting with 01i00if, what,02i00 and 01i00that02i00 are considered objects, then putting 01i01b00immediately02b02i00 in mid-position should be wrong. Putting it at the end of the sentences is not a good idea, I think. So the most natural position (or even the only natural position) should be the first one (...immediately understand, ...immediately see, ...immediately realized).02br

00Thank you in advance.010id1

00Yes, I think it's a matter of preference then, and the choice could be affected by context and by what we mean to emphasize. I wasn't sure of that, now it's clear.02br

00"Don't put an adverb between a verb and its object" is a good rule even though there are exceptions to it. Since inflections have practically disappeared from English over time, it is customary to place the 01font00object02font00 after the 01font00verb02font00 to
