Whatever

Hello dear teachers!

Whatever money his father gave, he finished it within a week.

I think in the sentence above there are two mistakes:

1. whatever should be replaced with howevermuch

2. In the sentnece above give is a transitive verb and cannot be used without an object.

Am I right?

Thanks very much indeed.

I've never seen or heard howevermuch . I see no mistakes in the original sentence but I wouldn't be at all surprised if native speakers preferred an in direct object after gave: Whatever money his father gave him , he finished it within a week. CB

I didn't really expect someone with a trusted badge say ''I've never seen or heard howevermuch''

To be honest, even if they offered me one of those, I wouln't accept it smply because I know whatever degree I do it won't entitle me to answer the questions which I have no slightest clue about.

There is nothing wrong with the original sentence.

I would prefer adding "for" as CoolBreeze mentioned above.

If you want to replace "Whatever" with "How ever much" this would not change the meaning. Please note though it is 3 separate words.
