Whate tense should I use here?

Can I say something like that:

Somebody is asking me to bring something and I want to say: I have been looking or I was looking for it- What tense should I use here and I haven't found it.

And the same below:

For example I want to take a shower but it turned out there is no hot water so I am going to the owner of the campsite and want to say: I was waiting for hot water- is this sentence correct but nothing happened.

Thanks in advance
