what you do with a clock...

Hi,

If a clock is slow or fast, what do you do? You fix it? You fix the time? You set it to the right time? I'd like to hear some common ways to say it.

Because of the daylight saving time, you have to change the time your clocks show. What do you do? You adjust your clock? You set the time one hour back/ahead? I'd like to hear some common ways to say it.

Thank you Emotion: smile

You set it or adjust it. Old-fashioned clocks were wound, but now that everyone uses batteries, we don't say that very much.

Ah, so you just set it. I have to set the clock, because it's slow. I see, thanks Emotion: smile

Set the/a/your clock/watch forward/ahead (an hour). Set the/a/your clock/watch back (an hour).
For two or more clocks/watches: Synchronize clocks/watches.

The daylight saving time mnemonic is "Spring forward. Fall back." (Double meanings of spring and fall.

Hi,

Where I live, we say "It's time to change our clocks". In the Spring, we 'put our clocks forward'. In the Fall, we 'put our clocks back'.

Best wishes, Clive

I saw Jim said "Set the clock ahead/back (an hour)".
I would tend to say "Set the clock (an hour) ahead/bac

Actually, we have three clocks in our house that must be wound. Sometimes one will run fast. There is a little ***** you have to adjust, after you reset the time.

Hi,

I guess you realize that, when we say that 'It's time to change the clocks', we are normally referring toanything that shows the time, eg watches, stove, microwave, VCR, computer.

Some of these things change themselves automatically, of course.

Or so they are advertised. I have a clock that is very finicky in this respect. It's anybody's guess whether it will set itself appropriately or I'll have to set it manually.
