Birth control pills have been proved effective in delaying the monthly menstrual cycle. Women have love-hate relationship with the monthly menstrual cycle. The study has showed that if the option for the period was given, a majority would choose to delay menstrual cycle. Although, women prefer having monthly periods to keep their feminism active.
Why women want to skip monthly periods?
Most common reasons are:
Present lifestyle has forced women to skip their periods or extend them so their personal and professional lifestyles do not get disturbed.
- Some women may want to skip on medical ground.
- Majority of women experience painful periods due to sever cramping, headache, pain and heavy bleeding. These conditions make them very frustrated.
If you take birth control pills as prescribed by your doctor or healthcare provider, you will be able to skip or delay periods. Consider the following points while taking pills.
- You need to determine which month you want to skip. Do you want to skip only one month, two or three months or wish to remain period-free for the whole year.
- If you wish to remain absent for one month, take birth control pills of 21 or 28 cycles. Most commonly used 21 or 28 days pills are Yasmin & Yaz.
Please remember that 21 days pills have only active pills whereas 28 days pills have 21 days active and 7 days placebo (inactive) pills. If you are on 21 days cycle, once you have finished the pack, start the fresh pack from 22nd day and complete the second pack. If you stop taking pills between this second 21 days cycle period or after completion of 21 days, you should get your periods back.
Similarly, in case of 28 days cycle pills, continue taking active pills till 21 days and then start the new pack of active pills. Do not take 7 days placebo or inactive pills after 21 days. Once you stop taking active pills either with completion or without completion of 21 days, your periods will resume in a day or two. However, in any case, if your periods do not resume within couple of days (maximum a week) once you have stopped taking pills, you must consult your doctor or healthcare professional. You must be pregnant.
- If you wish to extend menstrual cycles for three months or ninety days, you can opt for birth control pills like Seasonale or Seasonique. Both pills are popular for extending periods as well as 99% guaranteed in protecting from unwanted pregnancies.
- If, however, you plan to remain period-free for the whole year, Lybrel is recommended. This is the only FDA-approved birth control pill, which can be taken 365 days a year. It completely stops period for the full year!

3. Some women are concerned about skipping the periods. They are reluctant to take birth control pills for this reason. It has been clinically proven that skipping period through pills is safe. You will be in total control of your body. You may resume menstrual cycle as and when you wish to.
4.
