What word should I use to replace 'disgracing'

From now on, I am determined to devote myself to propagation in the Philippines with unity between priests and lay believers without disgracing the achievements of the former chief priest.

The new chief priest who wrote the above sentence uses 'disgracing' in the sense that he will not let the previous chief priest down by doing badly in propagation compared with the latter's good performance.
I think 'disgracing' is not the correct word? Am I right? If so, what word should I use to replace 'disgracing'.

Thanks.

Hi CJ.

Would "letting down" be acceptable? I have change to "the spread of Buddhism" to avoid the other meaning.

From now on, I am determined to devote myself to the spread of Buddhism in the Philippines with unity between priests and lay believers without letting down the achievements of the former chief priest.

Thanks.

Sorry, but no. You only let down people. It means to disappoint (someone). An achievement isn't the sort of thing that can become disappointed; it has no feelings.
