WHAT WAS THERE...

A good Sunday to you all.

If you can only use the verb TO BE, could you conceive a question and an aswer like the following?

WHAT WAS THERE IN 2012?

IN 2012 THERE WAS THE DIAMOND JUBILEE OF THE QUEEN.

This is possible in everyday conversation, albeit the question seems a bit vague, without more context, to prompt a particular answer. In writing it does not look like the greatest English ever; in particular, "What was there in 2012?" is awkward as it is not clear whether it means "What was there in 2012?", i.e. what was in that place (some place understood from context) or "What wa
