What was my main motivation . . .

This is my taking dictation. Would you correct? :

What was my main motivation for wanting a child? I wanted a kid because I thought motherhood would make Naomi happy again. A chance to see again a funny, beautiful, cheerful woman I fell in love with, I continued to hope. I finally drifted off to sleep and dreamt the Far East and oriental children. By the morning, I was certain that this was the way forward. I understood Naomi’s resistance. We’d had won too many disappointments. The years of carefully constructed breezy smiles, as friends and relatives announced their pregnancies, had hardened us against hope. The more I research the road of Chinese adoption, the more Naomi put forward reasons why we shouldn’t.

Almost perfect. "We'd had one too many disappointments." (It sounds pretty much the same, but this makes more sense.)
