What vs how much

Hi, please help me.

"What is the average salary of an MLB player?"

Is it possible to replace "what" with "how much"?

If it is okay, are there any differences in meaning?

It's grammatically okay but it sounds awkward. There's no difference in meaning but I would avoid using it.

I would only ever say either

"What is the average salary of MLB players?"

or

"How much money does the average MLB player make?
