What verb to use with "roots"

"I'm from <city> but my roots go as far (back?) as<region>."

When someone asks me "Where are you from?", would an answer like this be grammatically correct? If not, what compound verb should I use?

Top answer

g. I was born in Milwaukee but my roots go back to the Palatinate.
