What took you so long

"It took me 3 hours to reach the airport."
In this sentence, I think "It" is an "anticipatory it" and it refers to "to reach the airport".
So that means "to reach the airport" took me 3 hours.
But then, how can we explain the following sentence :
"What took you so long to reach the airport ?"
The question seems to answer the question itself.
