What this a positive or negative word?

Hello everyone,

I've got a question and it would be awesome if a native English speaker could help me out. Here it goes:
Is the word "skive" a positive or negative word? If you skive off does it imply you are lazy or is it more like mentally checking out?

We have similar words in German but I can't seem to find out what this would mean to a native speaker.
I appreciate any help! Thank you!!

"Skive" implies an active shirking of one's share of the work. It's definitely pejorative.

Skive is British English. I have not heard it used in American English.
