What they did give...

Hi,

Sentence #1 is from a native speaker. Note the underlined ‘did’. #2 is my version.

Which one of the sentences sounds better and why?

1. They did not give as any info on the project, but what they did give us is a range of outcomes.

2. They did not give as any info on the project, but what they gave us is a range of outcomes.

Thanks,

MG.

The second. The pseudo-cleft pattern "what they gave us is ..." is meant to emphasize something, and the only thing it could be emphasizing here is the contrast between "No" and "Yes":

No, they did not give us ...
BUT
Yes, they gave us ...

becomes: They did not
