What the young men are about these days

Hello,

MRS JENNINGS: Well, I declare, I do not know what the young men are about these days--are they all in hiding?

Mrs Jennings said this when she didn’t see the young men she expected to see at a party.

How can I interpret “about” here? Does it mean being fond of?
