Wha't the meaning of "as should we be" in this sentence?

Hi there,

I watched a CNN interview in which a Dominican nun asked Paul Ryan that "I’d like to ask you how you see yourself upholding the social church’s teaching that has the idea that God is always on the side of the poor and the dispossessed as should we be." I am confused about the meaning of "as should we be" in this sentence. Can anyone help me explain the meaning of that? Thanks!

Top answer

It means that we should also be on the side of the poor and the dispossessed. It would be easier to read with a comma before "as".
