What tense to use

Imagine the following situation. You are entering a buffet style restaurant, trying to find a free seat. You spot one, at a table with other people sitting around. You are not sure whether someone just left for a few minutes to grab something more to eat, or whether the place is really free. How do you ask?


"Does someone sit here?"/"Is someone sitting here?"/Some other tense?
