What tense to use?

Hi. Please help. I am trying to write something about the Beatles. a famous singing group from England. I think the original group got started in the very early 60s - maybe in 1960 or 1962. And I believe they are no longer in existence. What tense should be in the blank for the verb "recorded"?

In the very early 60s, a group named "the Beatles" (is the name correct?) was formed. Since then, they ____ many hit songs, including "Yesterday" and "Let it Be."

You can't use 'since then; that would suggests that they continued recording until the present time.
