What skill do I want to develop or enhance during the leadership program?

Most designers don't think of themselves as having a place in high councils of decision-making. But that is where they are needed most. Design leadership can be described as leadership that generates innovative design solutions. The world needs what designers have to offer not just on the drawing board but also on the board of directors. I see the two primary attributes of a design leader as being a combination of strategic planning (left brain) and creative vision (right brain). The left side of the continuum is often where design managers play.
Designers have even better preparation than most to assume leadership. They are especially qualified, they are already good at seeing things in context, already understands the sweep of history, are already conversant in the arts, sciences and humanities (as are the best leaders), are already good at working in ensembles, are already environmentally aware, are already aware of the limits of technology and its backfiring nature, are already capable of a high level of creative thinking, and are already appreciative of the aesthetic dimensions of leadership.
A design leader function is not just as visionaries, when it comes to the creative product they need to be able to speak to a client's business strategy, help in clarifying the proper corporate and marketing strategy, understand and define for their clients the people they should be reaching, and finally the design direction that aligns with all of that data to guide design that can create meaningful change in the market, in all senses of the word. Soft skills are often what differentiate designers from design leaders.
I am not perfect, I maybe creative, confident, and I have a vision for the future but I am not satisfied with the amount of skills, development and experience I’ve got and I want to learn more and experience more, I seek diversity, challenge, inspiration, competition and through engaging in different activities I will gain more and give more, I have a curiosity and a love of learning and I believe that this experience will add a very great deal of characteristic to who I really am and who I want to be in the future.
I would like to take advantage of my natural gifts and strengths while developing the ability to grow and utilize my other essential leadership skills. Through joining the program hopefully I will share my design experience, leadership, and my artistic knowledge, I will increase the flexibility in my interpersonal relationships and communication skills that will prepare me for many jobs in my area of interest. The program will help me pursue my current goal, move on to the next, and be successful as a professional to reach my carrier goal.
