What mean : As he got older, he got too fat

I mean, Isn't "he has got older" or He has got too fat". I have a doubt about what mean got, is like obtain something but in past in this case?. And in other words what mean, I talk spanish, so I cant understand well the meaning of this phrase. Thanks in advance.
