what kind of would is this?

Context 1: We should've bought some liquid. Some beer with this dinner would be awesome.

Context 2: Alex: I am going to give you three pairs of pants instead of two.
Jack: That would be awesome.

Is the would in context same as the would in context 2? I believe it's not the same type of use of would. In context 2, would is just showing politeness just like this sentence, 'When would you be leaving next week?' instead of 'when are you leaving next week?'

Am I correct Sir or Mam? Thank you in advance.

Anonymous Is the would in context same as the would in context 2? Every use of 'would' is likely to be a little different from every other use of 'would' if you split hairs. These seem a bit different because one of the them makes a suggestion about a possible future event (having beer with dinner) and the other offers appreciation in anticipation of an unexpected favor done (getting an extra pair of pants).

  • In context 2, would is just showing politeness Maybe you're right, but since both have 'would', they both show tentativeness, which is the mark of politeness.
