What kind of constituent is "you" in a sentence like "I want you to listen". It doesn't seem direct object or indirect object to me...

If you substitute another noun or pronoun in its place, maintaining the same function, you will see that it is in an object position.

I want candy.
I want a new car.
I want that.
I want you to listen.

It is complicated because it also works as a subject for a noninflected verb (to listen).
