Heh, that's funny you should bring up that topic - I live in a country that's adjacent to Siberia and word is around town that Siberia is a very cold place to live - you can literally freeze your rear end off living in Siberia and then some. Except for freezing, adverse weather and people with almond-shaped eyes, this place does not bring much to my mind.

Aside from the geographical facts, I think that most Americans think of Siberia as an isolated place to live, far from most civilization, and a sort of penal colony the Russians have used to send their "undesirables".

Strictly speaking, it IS part of Russia. But due to its remoteness (Siberia is a very far-flung place in comparison), people have come to think of it as a whole new country, that abuts on Russia.
