What is wrong with thes sentences

1. "I wish I knew that would happen"
In my opinion is should have been written in that way " I wish I knew that was going to happen" or " I wish I had known that would happen" ( I am not sure about "would " in the second sentence.

2." If somebody calls, tell him I'll be back later" - what about this one ?

It's still OK. "Him" refers to both genders in your sentence. "Him or her" or "them" can also be used.

'Him or her' or 'him/her' are fine in fairly formal contexts, but sound stuffy to some. 'Them' is becoming increasingly accepted in all but

That's quite all right with me, but it's not going to stop me from using it.
