What is wrong with sale..

Can someone kindly tell me what is 'grammatically' wrong with the following sentence:

In the festive season, alchohol was prohibited from sale.

I understand the correct sentences would be:

In the festive season, alchohol was prohibited from being sold.

In the festive season, alchohol was prohibited from selling.

Thanks,
Bharosey.
