what is "to cree"?

Hello,

I was listening to the song from Iron Maiden - run to the hills.
However, in the lyrics i find the sentence: "But many came too much for cree"

I don't find the word "to cree" in the dictionary.
What does it means exactly?
And is it word that you can use in a regular discussion?

Thanks

In this line, the alleged word "cree" needs to be a noun, not a verb. "Cree" is the name of a native American people (or their language), but I'm not sure if that interpretation makes sense. Otherwise, there is no word "cree" that I know of.

  • It could be a mishearing/typo.
  • Some transcripts have "creed" here, though strictly speaking that would be ungrammatical (it would need to be "the creed", or "our creed", or something like that), and I'm not sure how much sense it makes either.

Sorry, "Cree" (or "the Cree") does make sense in the context of the rest of the lyrics...
