Hi I can think of two meanings. The Scouts are an organisation, mainly for young teenagers and, if you belonged to that at some time, you might say 'When I was younger, I did some scouting' More generally, it means 'to find out information'. So you could say 'I wasn't sure of the best place to buy a new suit, so I did some scouting' A scout was a member of the military who went out - often into enemy territory - to bring back information Dave
