what is this sentence saying?

'Yet my own experience at the receiving end of parenthood had not been such unadulterated bliss that I was certain I wanted to inflict it on another human being.'

This guy who's talking is a doctor and has delivered quite a few babies... is that what he is referring to? I just don't understand.....

I'm sorry for putting up so many questions all of a sudden, I was waiting until I could use the internet again, and a lot of questions piled up in the meantime.....Emotion: embarrassed
