What is this part of speech?

It is closed. - "closed" is an adjective, but what about this?

I am headed for the airport.

What is "am headed"? Why use "am headed" and not "am heading"?

We used " headed " in the same case of " closed " as an adjectives ... the speaker described that they was headed ( describe their state or their position ) ... so the speaker didn't describe what were they doing at that momonet ...
